Anthony Agtarap played sports in high school and college. Despite his athletic background, he can't recall being taught basic exercise; no one emphasized proper form or injury prevention. Anthony went on to tear his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during a college basketball game and lost his scholarship. The injury changed the trajectory of his career — from engineering to health and fitness. Fittingly, he started his own strength and conditioning company in 2011 and opened Engineered Bodies Strength & Conditioning in Port Moody in 2013.
"I met some mentors who shaped the way I thought about training, coaching and movement" Anthony recalls. "From my own research of what was being offered, there was nothing in the health and fitness industry about educating people on the importance of movement quality as the foundation; it was one of the motivations that made me want to become a strength coach and teach people to become more mindful of how they move."
Anthony will tell you one of the core company values at Engineered Bodies Strength & Conditioningis continued education and growth. The underlying concept is to turn the Port Moody fitness studio into an educational hub by bringing in like-minded coaches to teach others in the Lower Mainland and abroad, and to help raise the standard of the health and fitness industry.
