For Vancouver music students, the frustrations of finding the right teacher for lessons in flute, voice, drums, piano or any other instrument may be coming to an end. Top Music Teachers is an online platform that aims to address these difficulties and make it easy for teachers and students to find each other. Teachers post profiles of their qualifications, fees, and availability; and students can look through their credentials and reviews, and find a suitable teacher near to them.

Alejandro Ochoa and Diana Castaneda launched the company early in 2015 after their experiences as educators led them to realize there was a great need for this type of service. The idea had been brewing for a while and they finally decided it was time to act on it when their daughter was born in 2013. Two years later, they were ready launch.

Alejandro is trained as a classical pianist. He came to Canada from Colombia in 2003 to pursue Masters and doctoral degrees in music performance. "In the back of my mind, there was always something wrong with traditional teaching environments. For both the teacher and the student the relationship tends to be frustrating due to outside factors or when the match is not right. Lessons also tend to be too expensive for families and the students don't always get the most suitable teacher."

“We really wanted to revamp the whole process and build a platform where students and teachers connect, they decide their conditions, what they want, and then they can search for local teachers in their area. The idea was there for a long time, I even registered the domain name, Top Music Teachers, in 2007," says Alejandro.

    Easiest way to find a good music teacher! We found a piano teacher for our daughter and we just couldn't be happier. The process is simple and professional, and the TMT staff were always happy and available to answer our questions.
