Joy Jones had been baking for years at the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto and in small cafés and restaurants around the city, but it wasn’t until she went to nutrition school that she realized how much of an impact industrial processed flour had in causing health problems, especially among her own family and friends. So Joy opened up her own bakery in Hamilton, Made for you by Madeleine, where she stone grinds her own fresh flour from organic grain in store.
The result is baked treats like cookies, mini-loaves, biscotti and more that are not only delicious, but also good for you. Every day, Joy also makes the bakery’s namesake —the madeleine. “You’re going to taste more flavour,”Joy says of her food. “You’re going to taste the grain. Not just sugar and fat. And you’re going to have more texture. That’s because it’s got more fibre and nutrients. Your body will perceive that and you’ll feel a better sense of satiety.”
To go with the treats, Made for you by Madeleine also offers a selection of teas instead of coffee, another health-conscious decision on Joy’s part.
