The sounds of laughter rise above the rhythmic clacking of sewing machines in Needlework, Kate Hunter and Liz Simpson’s creative workspace for crafters. Bolts of modern and vintage-inspired fabrics paint the walls in hues of pastels and purples, paisleys and peridot, while the animated conversations radiating from customers make Needlework feel more community hub than fabric store.
Kate and Liz always knew they wanted to open “a more refined fabric store,” states Kate—one where crafters could gather and collaborate. “There was no young, cool fabric shop that also had workspaces and classes,” says Kate. “We wanted to provide a source of unique and fun fabric for Hamiltonians as well as a creative workspace where they could gain sewing skills and put their skills to use.” With a range of options from sewing-by-the-hour to instructional classes and annual memberships, Needlework provides all the notions and tools for a crafter to transform cloth to couture.
