I am so happy to finally have a good pho restaurant near Kanata! The broth was tasty and the meat was tender and good too. Lots of noodles and the herbs were pretty fresh too. The veggie rolls are quite small, but good. The tea was also good. Service was a little gruff at first, with the tea clunked down without a word, but after that it was friendly. For example, when I asked for hot pepper oil sauce she got me some from the kitchen, and it was quite delicious. The chef looked tidy and efficient. The menu featured an entire page of bubble tea, however, when I asked for a tea, I was told that they do not have bubble tea, only soft drinks. I was a little dissaponted and confused, but I had come mainly for the soup, so I stayed. Yes, you can tell the restaurant used to be a pizzaria, but they have tried to make it nicer, and it is clean. The washroom is nice and clean too, unlike some other pho places. Prices are bit more than downtown, but still a great deal. A small pho is 5.95 and 2 springrolls were 3.00. I would recommend this place as great food, just not sure about the bubble tea situation. If you must have the tea, I would call ahead to make sure it is available.
I am a business traveler working many cities across from Texas, Florida all the way to Boston, New York, Phila...etc, and of course Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa. So as you can see I eat out everyday in different restaurants over the years.
When I first came to Ottawa here, I ate many Vietnamese restaurants on Summerset at Chinatown, but this one is far better meals compare with Vietnamese restaurants at Chinatown. O.K, a bit more money (may be 50 cents to a dollar) but it is worth for the quality and taste.
Now, I eat at this place almost everyday for both lunch and dinner. Lunch for $7.00 with a huge plate full of food, a very good deal indeed.
One of the best Vietnamese places in town.
There's no MSG in the food.
The salad rolls are EXCELLENT!
The one fellow in charge takes time to explain the cuisine to brand-new people.
My wife's vegetarian and now only likes to dine there versus Booth Street / Somerset, where the vegetarian selections are not as good.
You pay a bit more for the food, but we've never been disappointed.
