When you step into Vescada Salon, you know that you’ll get some serious pampering. There are shelves overflowing with AVEDA beauty products of all kinds: rosemary mint body lotion to hydrate dry skin, exfoliants to get rid of dead skin, and flax seed aloe gel to put spikes in your hair. Behind these are the styling stations, with tall wooden-framed mirrors lit by glittering chandeliers.

Vescada Salon is buzzing with activity. Two young girls who’ve had haircuts are preening and taking selfies. Another customer with thick blonde hair is gazing proudly at the ponytail she’s donating to make a wig for a cancer patient. Co-owner and hairstylist Vince Sicilia is grinning ear to ear as he hugs one of his long-term customers. “She likes coming here because I make her laugh,” he says.

Vince always knew that he would become a hairdresser. The day after he graduated from high school, he joined his cousin, who had his own hairdressing shop. A few years later, he teamed up with his childhood friend, Luis Nuccitelli, who'd developed an interest in hairstyling that emerged out of his love for art. Together, the two of them started their own business and called it Vescada Salon.
