Merchant Marie's Tattoo moved to Woodside in 2008. the new place has lots of free parking; large driveway in back, at the end of Melva Street, turn onto Shirley Street at Fred's Pizza, go to the end of the street, look left, see the red truck and a sign, "TATTOOS" beside a gate. The back yard has lots of trees and flowers, the fence is covered in vines too. It is like a tiny woodland park between Pleasant street and the CN railway. it over looks Halifax Harbour, you can see the tall ships, cruise ships, container ships, tugboats, sailing yaughts. You used to be able to walk right down to a little beach/ boat lunch, but they fenced it off in Fall, 2004. The shop is just open three days a week, just weekends. The previous shop downtown had way more overhead and required many more work hours to pay for everything. This new little place is less expencive to opperate, now the artist is semi-retired as of 2008, since 1985 working as an all walk-ins tattoo artist. There are no long line-ups or big crowds at the new place. All of the customers have been to Merchant Marie's in the past, and come for that reason. All of the framed drawings on the walls are drawn by the owner. No mass-produced "Cherry-creek flash" here. People bring in their own patterns or pick from the walls. Custom portraits and lettering available too. Any pattern can be done from the internet, and there is a zoom copier onsite to change sizes. The internet is in the shop to find any image of anything, any pattern at all. There is a website, just search for the shop name, you will find a map, photos, directions, and hours. Lire plus
