You know you are entering a world of style when you come to The Corner Salon in the historic Grain Exchange building in the heart of downtown Calgary. Located in the penthouse of one of Calgary’s oldest buildings, this boutique salon is a funky home away from home. “It’s like a New York Loft. It’s got 30-foot ceilings and really big windows,” says owner Naomi Maisey, who furnished the salon with a mix of vintage and modern touches. “It’s super funky. I have a lot of antiques. It’s not a spa setup or anything like you would find in a big salon.”
Naomi and her two stylists combine decades of experience with a fresh style. She takes inspiration from the building, which is also home to several small businesses. “I love where I am. I used to work at all the major salons and I used to come downtown. I always loved this building,” says Naomi. “It’s a cool place to work. It’s fun working in the big salons, but this is more like a boutique environment. The three of us work off our cell phones, so we all just work by ourselves.”
