First opened in 1983 by Alice Powell and Yvonne Kemp, Ascendant Books has been a central place for those seeking to discover life beyond the physical universe.
Alice took sole ownership in 1987 and the shop is now in its third location, a sprawling 5,000 square foot space in the heart of Edmonton’s gallery district. Its mix of self-development books, art, home décor and all things metaphysical makes this more than just a book store. It’s a place to explore and indulge all your senses.
Now, the store has now grown beyond its metaphysical roots and is attracting people with more varied interests, according to store manager, Sandra Mattar. “It’s a very diverse crowd. We believe everyone has a sixth sense. We cater to people who want to honour their sixth sense, and who know there is more to life than what their eyes and ears can see and hear," she says.
I bought a CD that was discontinued at Ascendant book store.
Opened it and there was no CD. Went back to store and the manager (they said it was final sale and they will not return it)!
The manager got upset, and accused me of ”staff abuse & is not tolerated (I was not). She began to be rude and kicked me out and told me not to return!
They have stated, Ascendant Books has been in business as you mentioned for a long time, and do stand by their products when they are on our shelves, really!?
