Long-time restauranteur Mike Sarris had been looking for a spot close to where he lived in west Edmonton. He and his family had sold their south side restaurant they had for nearly 20 year, where much of their clientele worked in the oil field industry. When coming up for a name of their new eatery, they took inspiration from those oil field connections. “My kids came up with the idea for the name,” says Mike. “Being in Alberta, I assumed it would have been taken. I did a search and it was available, so that was the concept we went with.” By March of 2015, the Refinery Grill was open for business.
The design and décor of the Refinery Grill provides an industrial look while remaining a warm, friendly place to meet for breakfast, have a quick lunch or a sit-down full meal dinner. “Everything is metal or brick. On the bar, there’s a big mammoth crane,” says Mike. “We don’t cater to the oilfield workers that we used to, but the people here really like the concept.” You will need an oil patch worker’s appetite, as the Refinery Grill is known for serving huge portions.
