Top Quality Japanese Food
This was the first Japanese restaurant I had ever eaten in, and it paved the way for my love of all japanese food (except green tea ice cream)

Agree with the previous review, people tend to forget about this location as Mr. Kim moved his business to Hunter. Even though Mr. Kim is friendlier but this does not mean they have better food and service and it's kinda disturbing sometimes. This location certainly offers quieter and relaxing atmosphere and the service is definitely better. We all know the one on Hunter is always packed and busy. Even though this is a good sign but does not do any better if you are looking for a spot to relax. As for the food, i personally think park street did a better job. The sushi rice is much softer and smells better. Hunter's is much harder and flavourless. Rice matters alot in making a good sushi.
The original Matsu Sushi on Park Street often gets overlooked since Mr. Kim of the Hunter Street location took many of his loyal customers with him. However, I prefer the Park Street location because it's not as busy, the service is better, and when you are greeted upon entering it is not such a spectacle. Now about the food... the menus for Park and Hunter are basically the same, but Park Street has some items that Hunter doesn't have, and vice versa. One item that Park Street has is the crunch roll which is AMAZING. It is basically a tempura shrimp and cucumber roll that has been rolled in panko bread crumbs so, as its name suggests, it is nice and crunchy. I also find the portion sizes to be larger at Park Street. My green dragon roll was almost twice the size of the one I would get at Hunter Street. If you're looking for high quality, fresh Japanese food in a quiet location, Matsu on Park Street is worth visiting.
Yes, they greet you effusively as you walk in the door -- this is their trademark. I ordered some food for takeout and as I waited, the staff brought me one of their oranges to eat - this was nice. The food was really good and I definitely will go back.
Whether it's take out or eat in, we have never been disappointed with the quality or quantity of the food. Very, very friendly atmosphere with great service. Best maki in Peterborough!
